Silver Clay Chains

£75.00

Come and make two distictive Silver Clay Chains with me. These projects take the process of chain making to another level. This module is fun and challenging and there’s enough scope for you to add your own designs and personality.

I have been on a little bit of a discovery recently - I found that I really like making Silver Clay chains! There's something very satisfying about doing the same task over and over again. It consumes your mind and focuses you on something outside of yourself. Some might say it's mindfulness!

Making silver clay chains does involve a lot of repetitive work which makes it quite a soothing process.

I set myself a challlenge to design some silver clay chains that did not involve any type of soldering and no 'joining' of silver clay chain links. This is the normal approach to chain making - you create the links, then you have to break them to join them to each other. Not in this module you don't!

If you find this type of chain making frustrating, you're not the only one and this module might just be for you!

You will learn:

  • How to calculate shrinkage for the silver clay that you are using so you can size your chain to fit
  • How to make a silver clay chain without cutting links to do so
  • How to create an integrated clasp that suits the design of your chain
  • How to add sterling silver wire to your silver clay chains
  • Understand what the implications are for adding Sterling silver to your work
  • How to create a functional toggle clasp

Please note – this online workshop is NOT suitable for a complete beginner. A working knowledge of clay is assumed.

A KILN is also necessary for this online workshop. I do offer a kiln firing service if you don’t have access to one.
