Hi, I’m Emma Gordon
Founder of Silver Clay SchoolI’ve been working with silver clay for over 18 years, and in that time, I’ve trained hundreds of students from all over the world through my carefully designed, tried and tested 12-month programme, Alchemy.
When I first decided to take my teaching online, I was a busy working mum with two kids, a dog, a husband, and a house to run — and like so many of us, I was trying to juggle it all. I also live with a chronic autoimmune condition, which made travelling and teaching in person more challenging.
I realised I wasn’t alone in that. So many people crave creativity and connection but need the flexibility to learn from home, at their own pace. Creating an online school felt like the perfect way to make silver clay accessible to everyone, no matter their circumstances.
But I didn’t want it to feel impersonal. Teaching and connecting with my students is one of my greatest joys, so I made sure that community and support are at the heart of everything I do. Watching my students surprise themselves, grow in confidence, and create beautiful jewellery they’re proud of is such a privilege.
For most of them, it’s not just about making jewellery — it’s about carving out time for themselves, rediscovering their creativity, and realising just how capable they truly are.
Over 18 Years Loving Silver Clay
Over the years, I’ve earned certifications in Precious Metal Clay (PMC), Art Clay Silver (ACS), and a diploma in Silver Clay. I’ve also been lucky enough to learn from some of the world’s most renowned silver clay artists.
In 2015, I founded Silver Clay School, which has since helped thousands of people discover the joy of creating with silver clay. I’ve taught for the Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide, presented at their live SINTER event, and even taught classes abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions
I get asked lots of questions!
These are just a small sample. But if yours isn’t answered here, please get in touch!
Do I have to complete the modules in a set time?
No, you don’t. You can take your time with it. Pick it up and leave it when you need to. As long as your payments are up to date, your modules will be waiting for you. And when you finish the 12 months, you’ll have lifetime access.
Are tools and clay included?
No, they are not. But I do give you a list of trusted suppliers and you are entitled to use several discount codes that are exclusive to the students of Silver Clay School.
Do I need a kiln to particpate?
No you don’t. Some of the modules you do, will need to be kiln fired – because I want to give you as rounded an education as possible. You get 4 kiln vouchers as part of your membership, one every 3 months and you can use them to send your firing to me.
How much clay will I need?
This is a difficult question to answer. Because it depends on what you decide to make in the Modules – some Modules have more than one project included. It will also depend on how big you like your pieces to be. But every month, I will give you a minimum amount of clay that you have to use, per project, so you can decide what you’d like to make and how much clay you’ll approximately need.
When does the course begin?
As soon as you sign up, you’ll get immediate access to the first module.
