Silver Clay Trinket Boxes

Welcome to the Silver Clay Trinket Boxes online workshop.

This is my module all about making trinket boxes with silver clay. I love this type of working, I love building things with silver clay – it’s definitely a satisfying thing to watch something slowly come to life!

This online course has been developed with the silver clay artist in mind and hopes to make this process easy!

There are two wonderful projects:

The Hinged Lid box

We are focused on making a box with a hinged lid. I also wanted to change the shape to a more box like square! Which means building something with straight lines and making it as accurate as possible.

The Friction Lid Box

This project is all about making a box with a friction lid. That is a lid that you need a little bit of force to put on and take off. It’s a close-fitting lid that needs no other clasp or mechanical attachment to keep it closed.

In this module you will learn:

• How to build a round trinket box
• How to make a tension lid that fits your trinket box
• How to make a domed lid
• How to make silver clay lace
• How to make a square box
• How to make sharp corners where no texture is lost
• How to fit a box together
• How to make a hinged lid
• How to make a wire clasp

Who is this online workshop is for?

This is not a workshop for beginners. It assumes a certain level of knowledge of how to roll and texture clay and how to refine and finish a piece to a good standard. You should have experience of ring making and have made at least one successful band ring before.

I also assume you’re familiar with properties of different clays and shrinkage.

I also anticipate that you have working knowledge of a kiln and know how to programme one or at the very least know someone who does!
